I wanna be an action hero...

...but only if I don't have to wear heels.

La Femme Nikita, 1990, Luc Besson, precursor to Obviously The Best Action Film Ever (The Professional, of course.)
Although, I'm not sure what to think of Nikita. First of all, there's the sexualization of this violent woman, and of violence in general— basically, the plot is, this girl is forced to become a SuperSecret spy of some sort, and she has to hide her SuperSecret identity while remaining cute, sexy, and stylish? The plot is shallow, and there aren't even explanations for her SuperSecret "assignments"— the whole movie seemed like someone just needed a thinly veiled excuse to have a pretty girl killing some people.
And then!! Nikita is pretty much a classic manic pixie dream girl: she's mysterious, she's kinda craaay-zaaay!! and she's a deadly assassin, yet she has a childish personality. So, sure, she kicks ass, but she's still a male fantasy.

But I did like many things about this film. Like, yeah, the clothes. Little black dresses, cherry-print underwear (!!!), that cutout hat that I can't find pictures of anywhere... and the whole androgynous look. I have this really big thing for shoulder-padded androgynous jackets.
:)
And if you look at the fifth picture down (I know she's really small and it's hard to see), she's actually wearing these black lace tights that've been so ubiquitous lately. Awesome.
I also thought Anne Parillaud's acting was quite good, even though her overall character was *cough cough cough* *ahem*. She's lovely.

Ooh, that was a big block of text.
I now abruptly segue into another subject— some music I've been addicted to lately:

(I'm sorry, but the guy in this video is so gorgeous. His name is Fares Fares.)

Volemort's Choir!

And finally, a beautiful cover of "Where is my Mind"

Flowerbrains

Ew, I haven't posted in aaages. Sorry. It's just that when I get out of the swing of blogging, I get kind of blaaaaaaaaaaghghghg and everything's just blaaaaaaaaaaaaghggh, and, yeah, this happens.

Hennyways.

I went on a school trip to Los Angeles last week! It was reasonably fun (except for the social interaction thing, which was awkward), and I met Elvis!

And when Darth Vader touched me, my brains exploded.

(Hollywood!)

(at LACMA)

So, so, so, there's my outfit. The quality's kind of bad because I had to steal these from the pictures my friend put up on Facebook...

Can you see the necklace okay? I would like to draw your attention to the necklace I made this by cutting up a pair of nylon stockings and knotting the bits together.
DIY!! Liberate the women!! (Although I do often wear nylons. And I think I read somewhere that nylons freed women from girdles and all the ancient unwieldy underwear contraptions of yesteryear. But, well, anyway.)

Also featuring:
-top from please don't ask me I don't remember where I get most of my clothes
-skirt made my grandmotherfuckinggrandmom
-tights and shoes from ????????it's a mystery!????????????

We also went to Olvera Street that day, which was... not that cool (lots of stands selling Mexican-ish kitschy stuff for tourists), but… I bought a lime green ukulele (which, upon further inspection, turned out to be a tiny guitar), and a wooden bracelet decorated with Catholic-y pictures. It’s a smidge too small and kind of falling apart, and I rather regret the purchase (WAY OVERPRICED, LADY!!) but, like, it’s still kind of cool?

So, I'll go learn how to play that damn guitar and put something cool together with that fucking bracelet, and hopefully blog more consistently; and I encourage you, in the meantime, to"Honk 4 Jesus!!!" and tell me how awesome I am.

Barely Legal

Since it was my birthday recently, I thought I'd...

And also:

Cibo Matto, everyone!! So much nineties Asian awesomeness.

The pictures should link back to their sources, except for the last one, which is my own. It's from their video for Sugar Water. Check out that snowflake dress! And those sunglasses!! AHHHHHHHHH

And, if you're wondering: I turned eighteen, and, yes, I had a nice day. There was this girl in my Econ class who turned eighteen on the same day, so when everyone sang "Happy Birthday," I pretended that they were also singing for me. It was awesome.

And. Yes, I am aware that you could just Google image search "Cibo Matto" and come up with these pictures.

Er...
